YEGRO Project Summary – Supported by AGRA
Through the YEGRO project, FarmIT successfully onboarded 5,000 additional smallholder vegetable farmers onto its digital platform. A key focus of the initiative was inclusivity, with 50% of the targeted farmers being women and youth, now equipped with access to real-time agricultural advisories. This access empowers them to make informed farming decisions, reduce costs, and improve productivity.
By leveraging FarmIT’s crop mapping and data analytics tools, farmers were able to reduce chemical fertilizer wastage by 0.2 tonnes/ha, optimizing input use. The platform also contributed to yield increases of up to 3 tonnes/ha, translating into an additional quarterly income of $250 per farmer. This boost in income supports greater economic independence for smallholders. In turn, the project has enhanced FarmIT’s sustainability, with each farmer contributing an annual subscription fee of $25, enabling continued service delivery and future expansion.
