FarmIT is a mobile based information platform that offers precision agricultural advisories and market linkage services to smallholder vegetable farmers (planting Water melons, tomatoes, Irish potatoes, cabbages, spinach, collards, sweet pepper and carrots) in 5 counties bordering Nairobi (Kiambu, Nyandarua, Machakos, Muranga, and Kajiado).
Digitalization, the use of mobile technology such as use of mobile payment systems, insurance systems, lending platforms, information platforms, smart logistics, and traceability is reshaping the landscape in many sectors such as finance, logistics, energy, security and urban planning. Agriculture is the least digitized sector in the world. The use of mobile technology to help farmers access the best information on best production techniques, enhance market access and ease payments has not been exploited fully with cases of poor adoption of agricultural technology already existing in this sector. currently Farmers are in need of agricultural mobile technology that are less costly, have ideal digital literacy requirements and can be used in any language
vision is to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers through digital technologies
